Black Swan Designs
Piloted by working owner Gwen Nowrick, Black Swan
Designs has been supplying reproduction clothing
to historical enthusiasts since 1996. Acclaimed by
museum professionals, living historians and actors
alike, Black Swan garments may be seen at the Tower
of London, Hampton Court Palace, Higgins Armoury
Museum, Cabrillo Monument and many other sites across
the US and Europe, as well as in the personal kits
of reenactors worldwide.
Extensive research precedes the creation of every
garment offered and all are based on historical examples.
Our commitment to accuracy begins with research as
Gwen examines extant garments in museums, consults
written accounts, evaluates contemporary visual sources
and corresponds with curators around the world gathering
information about items in their collections. Fabrics
and colors appropriate for each garment are carefully
chosen, and great care has been taken to achieve
as close a match as possible to the effect of the
original pieces. All Black Swan designs are thoroughly
field tested by reenactors worldwide for fit and
longevity. Garments are professionally sewn by our
hand-picked team of seamstresses who take pride in
their work. All washable garments are prewashed and
dried to eliminate shrinkage, and nothing leaves
our shop until it has been carefully inspected, often
by Gwen herself. We believe you will find that our
prices are exceptional for clothing of this quality.
A full range of garments are offered for sale, from
underclothes to accessories. We can customize many
products we offer, and accept a limited number of
custom commissions. Commissions for museums, historic
sites, costumed interpreters and the like are solicited. |
